4-H Summer Fun Flyer -Text Format

All workshops are open to Harnett County youth ages 5-18. Summer Fun workshops are designed to be fun and educational. If you are interested in joining 4-H, Summer Fun is a great place to start!

Due to the popularity of our programs, we have decided to open Summer Fun registration on May 18th at 12:30 pm. All invoices must be paid by June 5th at 12 pm to guarantee your child’s spot.

Harnett County 4-H can provide these programs at a reduced cost with the help of a large donation from a generous donor & former 4-H Alumnus.

HOW DO I ENROLL MY CHILD IN 4-H SUMMER FUN?

All workshops will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis using the following Google Form link. You must fill out the form for each child. The link below will go to the live Google Form at 12:30 PM on May 18, 2026.

If your child receives a spot, you will receive an email with your invoice within 3 business days.

4-H age is determined as of January 1st. Your child has to be 5 years old as of January 1, 2026, to participate. Their age as of January 1st, 2026, determines their 4-H age for the year.

You MUST enroll your child in 4HOnline, the online 4-H enrollment system. This is a required part of all in-person Summer Fun participation. This enrollment ensures that we have parent contact information, health/medical information in case of an accident, completed authorization forms, and knowledge of who can pick up your child. If not currently a club member, please register as a 1 Harnett County Member-at-Large and 1 Harnett County 4-H Summer Fun (as your clubs) with Summer Fun as your primary club.

All payments (cash or check) can be paid in person or by mail to our office at 126 Alexander Dr., Suite 300 Lillington, NC 27546. If you pay with cash, PLEASE BRING THE EXACT AMOUNT, as we do not keep cash on hand to give you change.

4-H Cloverbud Cooking AM Session:

Young chefs will mix, measure, bake, and decorate while learning beginner kitchen skills in a fun and encouraging environment. Participants will prepare recipes that may be entered into the NC State Fair Youth Culinary Division, including yeast breads, quick breads, biscuits, muffins, scones, cakes, and several types of cookies, such as drop, rolled, and bar cookies. Youth will also learn basic food safety, kitchen teamwork, measuring techniques, and confidence in the kitchen while creating delicious treats to enjoy and share.

4-H Cloverbud Cooking PM Session:

This afternoon session is a repeat of the AM Cloverbud Cooking workshop and gives additional youth the opportunity to participate in this fun, hands-on cooking experience. Young chefs will learn beginner-level kitchen skills while preparing recipes that may be entered in the NC State Fair Youth Culinary Division, including yeast breads, quick breads, biscuits, muffins, scones, cakes, and a variety of cookies, such as drop, rolled, and bar cookies. Participants will practice measuring, mixing, food safety, teamwork, and kitchen creativity while building confidence and having fun.

4-H Cloverbud Crafts

Youth will create multiple DIY crafts, many of which are eligible for entry in the NC State Fair. Focus is on creativity, imagination, and hands-on making.

4-H Cloverbud: Kids in Conservation, Harnett County Soil & Water

Ages: 5–7 | Dates: July 28–29 | Time: 9:00 AM–2:00 PM

Did you know there can be over a billion living organisms in just one teaspoon of soil, or that one acre of cotton can produce enough material to make more than 200 pairs of jeans? In this exciting hands-on conservation workshop, Cloverbuds will explore how food, land, water, plants, animals, and people are all connected. Participants will discover the importance of protecting natural resources through interactive activities, outdoor exploration, experiments, and conservation games. Youth will learn about soil health, water quality, agriculture, wildlife habitats, and simple ways they can help care for the environment in their everyday lives.

This workshop encourages curiosity, teamwork, environmental stewardship, and hands-on learning while helping youth build a deeper appreciation for the natural world around them.

Supplies Needed: Clothes suitable for outdoor activities, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, and a refillable water bottle. Participants will need to pack lunch each day.

4-H Cloverbud STEM AM Session

Ages: 5–7 | Dates: July 14–15 | Time: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

Young learners will explore the exciting world of robotics and coding through fun, hands-on STEM activities using Indi Robots. Participants will learn to guide and program robots using color-coded cards and creative pathways, while building foundational STEM skills in an engaging, age-appropriate environment. Activities will include creating routes, solving simple coding challenges, navigating obstacle courses, and designing custom robot pathways.

This workshop encourages creativity, teamwork, critical thinking, sequencing, and problem-solving while helping Cloverbuds gain confidence in exploring technology through play-based learning. Youth will enjoy interactive challenges that make STEM exciting, educational, and fun for beginners.

This afternoon session is a repeat of the AM Cloverbud STEM workshop and provides additional youth the opportunity to participate in this exciting hands-on robotics experience. Participants will explore STEM concepts through interactive activities using Indi Robots and color-coded programming cards. Youth will learn beginner coding and sequencing skills while guiding robots through creative pathways, obstacle courses, and problem-solving challenges.

Campers will build confidence in technology, creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking while enjoying a fun and engaging introduction to robotics and engineering concepts designed specifically for younger learners.

4-H Electric Project Session 1

North Carolina 4-H is home to one of the nation’s leading youth electric programs, and this workshop is the perfect introduction to the exciting world of electricity and engineering. Participants will learn basic electrical concepts, including circuits, wiring, conductivity, power sources, and safe use of tools, while building their own Plant Soil Monitor Kit to take home.

Youth will gain hands-on experience working with electrical components, troubleshooting connections, and understanding how technology can be used in agriculture and everyday life. This workshop encourages problem-solving, creativity, critical thinking, and STEM exploration in a fun and supportive environment. Whether participants are brand new to electricity or interested in future STEM projects, this session provides a strong foundation for continued learning in the 4-H Electric Program.

4-H Electric Project Session 2

This session is a repeat of Electric Project Session 1 and provides additional youth the opportunity to participate in one of North Carolina 4-H’s nationally recognized electric programs. Participants will explore basic electrical concepts, including circuits, wiring, conductivity, electrical safety, and the use of electricity in everyday technology and agriculture.

Youth will build their own Plant Soil Monitor Kit while learning hands-on STEM skills through guided instruction and interactive activities. Participants will strengthen problem-solving abilities, critical-thinking skills, and confidence in working with electrical components and tools. This workshop serves as an excellent introduction to the 4-H Electric Program and encourages curiosity in engineering, technology, and innovation.

4-H Electric Project Session 3: Advanced

Ages: 10–18 | Date: July 20 | Time: 9:00 AM–3:00 PM

This advanced electric workshop is designed for youth who have previously completed a 4-H Electric Project session. Participants will build on foundational electrical knowledge by exploring more complex circuits, applied engineering concepts, and advanced problem-solving challenges.

Youth will work on a new hands-on project designed by 4-H Agent Jackie Helton, applying what they have learned to design, assemble, and troubleshoot an original electrical system. This session emphasizes a deeper understanding of how electrical components interact and how STEM skills are used in real-world innovation and design.

At the end of the workshop, each participant will take home their completed advanced project. This session is ideal for young people to enhance their skills and confidence in the 4-H Electric Program.

4-H Baking: Beginners Session 1

This two-day beginner baking workshop introduces youth to the fundamentals of baking in a fun, hands-on learning environment. Participants will learn essential kitchen skills, including measuring, mixing, following recipes, food safety, and proper baking techniques.

Throughout the session, youth will prepare a variety of baked goods, including yeast breads, cakes, cookies, and cornbread. In addition to building practical baking skills, participants will gain confidence in the kitchen and learn how to successfully complete recipes from start to finish. Many of the recipes taught can also be entered into the NC State Fair or other youth baking competitions.

This workshop is designed for beginners who want to learn how to bake at home while developing creativity, independence, and strong foundational culinary skills.

4-H Baking: Beginners Session 2

This session is a repeat of Baking: Beginners Session 1, offering additional youth the opportunity to experience this introductory baking workshop. Participants will learn foundational baking skills in a hands-on kitchen setting, including measuring, mixing, following recipes, kitchen safety, and proper baking techniques.

Youth will prepare a variety of baked goods such as yeast bread, cakes, cookies, and cornbread while building confidence and independence in the kitchen. Many of the recipes practiced may also be used for entry into the NC State Fair or other youth baking competitions.

This workshop is ideal for beginners learning to bake for the first time and want to develop strong culinary basics in a fun, supportive environment.

4-H Baking: Advanced Session 1

This advanced baking workshop is designed for young people who are ready to take their baking skills to the next level. Participants will build on foundational techniques to explore more complex recipes and advanced decorating and baking methods.

Youth will prepare a variety of baked goods, including breads, cakes, and pies, with a focus on recipes that can be entered into the NC State Fair and the Farm City Week Youth Baking Competition. A highlight of the workshop includes learning how to create mirror-glazed cakes, a popular and visually striking dessert technique.

A special guest instructor will also teach participants how to make sourdough bread and guide them through creating and maintaining a sourdough starter. Each participant will take home their own starter to continue baking at home.

This workshop encourages creativity, precision, and confidence in advanced baking skills.

This session is a repeat of Baking: Advanced Session 1, giving additional youth the opportunity to take part in this advanced-level baking experience. Participants will strengthen their skills in baking bread, cakes, and pies while practicing more advanced techniques used in competitive baking.

Youth will create recipes that may be entered in the NC State Fair and the Farm City Week Youth Baking Competition, including specialty items such as mirror-glazed cakes. A special guest instructor will teach participants how to make sourdough bread and guide them through developing a sourdough starter from scratch. Each participant will take home their own starter to continue baking at home.

4-H Cooking in the Kitchen: Beginners AM Session

This four-day beginner cooking program is adapted from the Chef & The Child program originally developed in Forsyth County. It is designed for youth who are participating in their first 4-H cooking experience. Participants will learn essential food preparation, nutrition basics, kitchen safety, and culinary skills through hands-on cooking activities each day.

Youth will prepare a variety of simple, fun, and practical recipes they can enjoy during the workshop and confidently recreate at home. Menu items include MyPlate pizza, French omelets, ice cream muffins, easy cheesy lasagna, and garlic bread. Along the way, participants will build confidence in the kitchen while learning teamwork, measuring skills, and healthy eating habits.

This workshop provides a strong foundation for future cooking programs and encourages independence, creativity, and lifelong kitchen skills.

4-H Cooking in the Kitchen: Beginners PM Session

This advanced-level cooking workshop is designed for youth who have successfully completed the 4-H Cooking in the Kitchen: Beginner program. Over three days, participants will build on foundational culinary skills and expand their knowledge of food preparation, nutrition, recipe modification, and kitchen technique.

Youth will work through new and more challenging recipes while strengthening skills in cooking methods, ingredient substitution, meal planning, and safe food handling. Emphasis will be placed on independence in the kitchen, creativity in recipe preparation, and confidence in executing more complex dishes.

This workshop is an excellent next step for young people ready to grow their culinary abilities and continue developing lifelong cooking skills in a hands-on, engaging environment.

4-H Cooking in the Kitchen: Advanced PM Session

This afternoon session is a repeat of the Advanced Cooking in the Kitchen program, offering additional youth the opportunity to build on skills learned in the beginner course. Over three days, participants will strengthen their culinary abilities through hands-on preparation of more advanced recipes and techniques.

Youth will focus on expanding their understanding of food preparation, nutrition, recipe modification, and kitchen confidence. Activities will emphasize independence, creativity, and problem-solving as participants prepare a variety of new dishes and learn how to adjust recipes for different needs and preferences.

This workshop is ideal for young people ready to continue growing their cooking skills in a structured, engaging, and hands-on environment.

4-H STEM: Sphero AM Session
Ages: 8–18 | Dates: June 8–9 | Time: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

This hands-on STEM workshop introduces youth to robotics and coding using Sphero robots. Participants will learn how to control and program Sphero devices through app-based coding while completing a variety of interactive challenges and activities.

Youth will explore basic movement control, obstacle navigation, and problem-solving tasks as they design their own creative robot courses. Each activity is designed to build skills in sequencing, logic, critical thinking, and teamwork in a fun and engaging environment.

This workshop is a great introduction to robotics for beginners and encourages creativity and confidence in STEM learning.

4-H STEM: Sphero PM Session

Ages: 8–18 | Dates: June 8–9 | Time: 1:00 PM–4:00 PM

This afternoon session is a repeat of the Sphero AM workshop and provides additional youth the opportunity to explore robotics and coding through hands-on learning. Participants will use Sphero robots and app-based programming to complete interactive challenges and creative engineering tasks.

Youth will practice controlling robot movement, solve navigation problems, and design custom obstacle courses while strengthening skills in coding, sequencing, and critical thinking.

This session offers a fun, beginner-friendly introduction to robotics in an engaging STEM environment.

4-H STEM Racing Camp

Ages: 10–18 | Dates: June 29–July 2 | Time: 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
Location: Cooperative Extension Training Room (with field trips included)
Cost: $40 | Workshop Limit: 12

This exciting STEM camp explores the science, engineering, and technology behind NASCAR racing using remote-controlled cars and hands-on engineering activities. Youth will learn speed, aerodynamics, force, and design all work together in motorsports while applying STEM concepts in a fun, competitive environment.

Participants will take part in interactive building and testing activities, racing challenges, and team-based problem solving. The camp also includes educational field experiences, such as a behind-the-scenes tour of a NASCAR race shop. Youth will travel to the Moore County Cooperative Extension Office multiple times throughout the week and complete a full-day field trip experience as part of the program.

This camp encourages teamwork, critical thinking, engineering design, and real-world STEM application.

Additional Note: There is also an optional opportunity to attend a NASCAR race in Fall 2026 at either Charlotte Motor Speedway or Martinsville Speedway (Virginia).

This hands-on STEM camp gives youth the opportunity to explore a variety of science, technology, engineering, and math activities in a fun and engaging environment. Participants will take part in interactive challenges designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

Activities may include introductory coding, simple engineering builds, design challenges, and team-based problem-solving projects. Youth will work together to test ideas, build solutions, and think like engineers while learning how STEM applies to the real world.

4-H Sign Language

Ages: 10–18 | Date: June 10 | Time: 9:00 AM–3:00 PM

This engaging, hands-on workshop introduces youth to the basics of American Sign Language (ASL) and the importance of inclusive communication. Participants will learn foundational skills, including the ASL alphabet, common words, numbers, and everyday phrases used in real-life conversations.

Through interactive instruction, guided practice, games, and group activities, youth will build confidence using basic sign language in a fun and supportive learning environment. The workshop also emphasizes cultural awareness, respect, and understanding of the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

By the end of the session, participants will have a strong introduction to ASL and practical communication skills they can continue to build upon.

Youth will also learn simple ways to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines and understand how exercise supports overall health and well-being.

This afternoon session is a repeat of the Fun & Fit AM program, giving additional youth the opportunity to participate in a fun, movement-based wellness experience. Participants will engage in a variety of physical activities designed to promote fitness, teamwork, and healthy living.

Youth will participate in interactive games, group fitness challenges, and cooperative activities that encourage movement and positive energy. The session also reinforces the importance of staying active and making healthy choices in everyday life.

This workshop provides a supportive and energetic environment where youth can build confidence, improve physical skills, and have fun while staying active.

4-H Just Fishing

Ages: 10–18 | Date: June 18 | Time: 8:00 AM–3:00 PM
Location: Cooperative Extension Training Room

This relaxed, fun-focused fishing day is designed for 4-H members who have already participated in a 4-H Sportfishing workshop and want more time on the water with friends. The emphasis is on enjoyment, practice, and friendly competition rather than formal instruction.

Participants will take part in optional fishing challenges and mini-competitions throughout the day to add excitement and encourage skill-building. Youth can test their techniques, try new approaches, and enjoy a supportive environment with other young anglers.

This program provides a great opportunity to build confidence, strengthen fishing skills, and enjoy a full day outdoors in a fun, social setting.

Supplies Needed: Members should pack a lunch, bring their own fishing equipment, a bag chair, sunscreen, and bug spray. Comfortable outdoor clothing is recommended.

4-H Sportfishing: Beginner

Ages: 8–18 | Dates: July 30–31 | Time: Day 1: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM | Day 2: 8:00 AM–3:00 PM

This two-day introductory fishing workshop is designed for young people who want to learn the basics of fishing from the ground up. On Day 1, participants will focus on foundational skills, including identifying common fish species, selecting the right bait, learning proper casting techniques, and practicing essential fishing knots. Youth will also review basic equipment setup and preparation to feel confident heading into the field.

On Day 2, participants will put their skills into action during a guided fishing trip. Youth will have the opportunity to fish, practice techniques learned on Day 1, and experience real-world fishing conditions. The goal is for every participant to gain confidence and leave with their own memorable “fish story.”

Supplies Needed: Participants must pack a lunch for Day 2, bring their own fishing equipment, a bag chair, sunscreen, and bug spray. Comfortable outdoor clothing is recommended.

4-H Sportfishing: Advanced

This advanced-level fishing workshop is designed for young people who have already completed 4-H Sportfishing and are ready to build on their experience with more in-depth skills and real-world applications.

On Day 1, participants will explore advanced topics including fish handling and care, how fish are prepared for mounting, proper cleaning and filleting techniques, and what to expect at a tackle shop. Youth will also gain exposure to equipment selection and more specialized fishing knowledge, strengthening their understanding of the sport.

On Day 2, participants will go on a fishing trip, applying advanced techniques in a real-world setting. Youth will practice improved casting, bait selection, and strategy while continuing to build confidence and independence as anglers.

Supplies Needed: Participants must pack lunch for both days, bring their own fishing equipment, a bag chair, sunscreen, and bug spray. Appropriate outdoor clothing is recommended.

4-H Rocketry: Beginner AM Session

This hands-on aerospace workshop introduces youth to the science of flight and rocketry using the 4-H Aerospace curriculum. Participants will explore how and why rockets fly while learning the basic principles of aerodynamics, thrust, and stability.

Youth will build their own model rocket step by step and then prepare it for launch. Along the way, they will participate in engaging STEM activities that connect rocketry to real-world science and engineering concepts.

Each participant will leave the workshop with their own model rocket and launch system to continue exploring at home. This kit is valued at approximately $100, with costs reduced thanks to a donation from a 4-H alumnus.

4-H Rocketry: Beginner PM Session

This is a repeat of the AM beginner session, designed to allow more youth to participate in the rocketry experience. Participants will explore the same foundational aerospace concepts in a hands-on, engaging format.

Youth will learn the basics of flight and rocketry through the 4-H Aerospace curriculum, focusing on how rockets fly and the science behind lift, thrust, and stability. They will build and prepare their own model rocket while participating in related STEM activities that reinforce engineering and physics concepts in an age-appropriate way.

Each participant will take home a completed model rocket and launch system to continue experimenting beyond the workshop. The kit value is approximately $100, made possible through a donation from a 4-H alumnus.

4-H Rocketry: Intermediate

Ages: 9–18 | Dates: July 6–8 | Time: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

This workshop is designed for young people who have already completed the 4-H Rocketry: Beginner session and are ready to take their skills to the next level. Participants will expand on foundational rocketry knowledge while working on more complex builds and design improvements.

Over three days, youth will construct a more advanced model rocket, including sanding, assembly refinement, and painting for finishing details. Day 3 will focus on launch day, during which participants will test their rockets and observe their flight performance.

Additional STEM exploration includes two-engine rockets, 2-liter bottle rocket experiments, and an introduction to flight concepts beyond basic rocketry. Youth will also explore related aviation topics, such as radio-controlled airplanes and helicopters, to broaden their understanding of flight science.

Each participant will leave with a deeper understanding of engineering design and aerospace principles. The project kit is valued at approximately $100 and is supported by a donation from a 4-H alumnus.

4-H Rocketry: Advanced

This advanced rocketry workshop is designed for experienced 4-H members who have participated in multiple rocket builds, including those who completed the Viking rocket in 2025. Youth will apply advanced engineering skills to construct a more complex, two-stage rocket system.

Over three days, participants will work through the full engineering process, including construction, sanding, assembly, and detailed painting. Day 3 will focus on launch day: youth will test their rockets and evaluate performance outcomes.

In addition to rocketry, participants will deepen their understanding of flight science by exploring radio-controlled airplanes and helicopters, expanding their knowledge of aerodynamics and aviation principles.

This hands-on experience builds advanced problem-solving, precision building, and STEM application skills. The project kit is valued at approximately $100 and is supported through a donation from a 4-H alumnus.

4-H Grilling: Session 1

Youth will also explore flavor development through marinades, rubs, and seasoning blends, and learn about different cuts of meat and how they affect cooking methods and results.

Participants will put their skills to practice by grilling selected meats and comparing their results with those of others in the group. The workshop also covers all four 4-H Grilling competition categories: Beef Char-grill, Chicken BBQ, Turkey BBQ, and Pork Char-grill.

The workshop also includes instruction on building flavor through marinades, rubs, and seasoning blends, along with an overview of different meat cuts and how they affect cooking results.

Participants will apply what they learn by grilling a selected cut of meat and sampling different grilled items prepared by peers. All 4 categories of the 4-H Grilling competition are covered: Beef Char-grill, Chicken BBQ, Turkey BBQ, and Pork Char-grill.

This final grilling session, a repeat of sessions 1 & 2, gives additional youth the opportunity to learn essential outdoor cooking skills in a hands-on, structured environment. Youth will practice safe charcoal-grill operation, learn the proper minimum internal temperatures for a variety of meats, and develop skills in seasoning, marinating, and rub application. Instruction will also cover different cuts of meat and how they influence flavor and cooking methods.

Participants will apply their knowledge by grilling selected meats and evaluating results alongside peers. The workshop includes preparation for all four 4-H Grilling competition categories: Beef Char-grill, Chicken BBQ, Turkey BBQ, and Pork Char-grill.

Farm to Fork

Ages: 10–18 | Dates: July 13–16 | Time: 8:30 AM–1:00 PM

This four-day immersive camp helps youth understand where their food comes from and how agriculture connects to everyday meals. Participants will explore the full “farm to fork” journey by visiting local farms and learning how food is grown, raised, and harvested before it reaches the kitchen.

After farm visits, youth will bring back fresh ingredients such as meats, fruits, and vegetables to prepare a variety of dishes in the kitchen. Each day builds culinary skills, food safety knowledge, and confidence in preparing farm-fresh ingredients.

On the final day, participants will compete in the Dinah Gore 4-H Healthy Food Challenge, in which teams create a dish using a mystery ingredient. This encourages creativity, teamwork, and practical application of everything learned during the week.

The Thread Crew: Cross-Stitch & Embroidery Makers Camp Session 1

This creative, beginner-friendly camp introduces youth to the calming and artistic world of hand stitching. Participants will start with simple cross-stitch projects using easy-to-follow patterns designed to build confidence and basic stitching skills.

Youth will learn how to read a pattern, follow a grid, and complete a starter design they can proudly take home. The focus is on patience, creativity, and the development of fine motor skills in a relaxed environment.

The second half of the camp introduces hand embroidery techniques, allowing participants to experiment with decorative stitching and personal expression. Youth will leave with unfinished or in-progress pieces along with the skills and inspiration to continue stitching at home.

This is a repeat of Session 1, designed to give more youth the opportunity to explore beginner cross-stitch and embroidery in a relaxed, creative setting. Participants will experience the same hands-on projects and instruction as Session 1.

Youth will begin with simple cross-stitch using beginner-friendly patterns that teach how to follow a grid, manage thread, and complete a small, stitched design. The focus is on building confidence, patience, and basic hand-stitching skills.

Participants will also be introduced to hand embroidery techniques, allowing them to explore more creative and decorative stitching styles. Youth will leave with work in progress and the skills needed to continue stitching independently at home.

4-H Forestry: Session 1

This hands-on forestry workshop introduces youth to the science of trees, forests, and natural resource management. Participants will learn how foresters study and measure trees while gaining an understanding of how forests support wildlife, water quality, and the environment.

Youth will be introduced to basic forestry tools and techniques used in the field, including how to estimate tree height and diameter, identify tree characteristics, and understand tree growth patterns. Activities are designed to be interactive and beginner-friendly, helping participants build observation skills and environmental awareness.

4-H Forestry: Session 2
