4-H Programming

4‑H programs are grounded in the belief that kids learn best by doing. Kids and teens complete hands-on projects in areas like science, health, agriculture, livestock, and civic engagement, in a positive environment where kids receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. The kids can choose to concentrate on one focus area or they can try a variety of programs throughout their 4‑H experience. Regardless of the project area, all 4‑H programs include mentoring and career readiness as core elements.

4-H Presentation Program

The 4-H Presentation Program is an opportunity for youth to learn about a new topic, develop a presentation, and utilize public speaking skills at the County and District competitions. Confident public speaking is a crucial but often overlooked and underdeveloped skill. Developing effective communication skills and techniques provides youth with a positive sense of self and higher levels of self-confidence. Through the annual 4-H Presentations program youth will explore and research an area that interests them, then write, practice and deliver a presentation on the topic. Presentation skills empower them to achieve and succeed in any situation they encounter.

4-H Summer Camps Program

For more than 80 years, the North Carolina 4-H Summer Camps Program have taught youth life skills. There are day camps and workshops, overnight and week long options through centers located from the mountains to the sand hills to the coast.

4-H camping programs have a rich history of providing educational programming to thousands of youth annually through hands-on and experiential learning. Through participation in the 4-H Summer Camps Program youth will:

• Understand that learning can be fun and improve communication skills.
• Acknowledge their abilities and limitations and develop skills and options for growth.
• Learn about various sciences and develop scientific skills and learn about the natural environment and improve stewardship skills as well as their physical skills and fitness.
• Learn a process for solving problems and working cooperatively in groups.
• Learn skills to set goals and make decisions individually and to identify and manage resources.
• Experience a variety of life-long recreational activities and learn and practice ethical behavior.

Project Record Books

The philosophy of 4-H Project Record Books is to teach youth the important life skill of how to keep records. Record keeping is an ongoing process that does continues through adult life. Youth are encouraged to select from a variety of alternatives to meet their individual record keeping needs and learning styles.
