Description:

Continuing this summer, two area chefs, Ms. Tamika House and Mr. Jim Pfifferling, from Louisburg College are networking with the Franklin County Extension office to prepare and serve up delicious summer dishes utilizing local produce available from the Farmer’s Market. This Friday, July 10th, sweet corn and tomatoes will be on the menu. The cooking will start at 10:30 a.m. so be the first in line to try new and interesting cuisine!" Free recipes will also be available. Buy Local!

Also, the week of July 27th, youth in area will be participating in the “Junior Chef Program” where they will visit local farms, both meat and vegetable farms, in the morning in Franklin County, purchase fresh ingredients, and return to the Extension Center to prepare delicious, fresh, healthy lunches with the local food. The last day of the program, Friday, July 31st, the youth will visit the Governor’s Mansion where they will meet the Executive Chef, tour the Mansion’s “food garden”, and then have lunch prepared for them by the Chef.

Both area projects are promotional events to encourage and teach our public to Buy Local, Buy Fresh. Also, a website, www.FranklinCountyFarmFresh.com, has a list of local farms where the public can source local foods. For more information on these summer projects, contact Martha Mobley, Local Foods Coordinator, at 919-496-3344 or martha_mobley@ncsu.edu.
